Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may completely enfold me and may dwell in me. So I am well pleased with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, and with difficulties, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak in human strength, then I am strong truly able, truly powerful, truly drawing from God’s strength. (2 Co 12:9-10 AMP)
Be strong in the Lord draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him and in the power of His boundless might. (Eph 6:10 AMP)
Before Christ, we lived our lives according to the patterns of this world, constantly evaluating our ability to handle circumstances and situations through our own strength and know-how. We battled thoughts and feelings of sufficiency and insufficiency, striving to think positively, motivate ourselves, and muster an internal fortitude developed through a life of self-reliance. We aimed to rise above, conquer, master, and succeed.
According to the world's standards, this was the best-case scenario, but it was neither always the case nor the truth. We often felt weak and insufficient to tackle life's challenges. The constant pace of the world and the quest to become better often left us overwhelmed and stuck in a race perpetuated by ourselves and society. Relying solely on ourselves, we often felt alone and burdened by our inabilities.
Yet, in Christ, the narrative has completely turned inside out. Jesus calls those who are weary and heavy-laden to come to Him, not those deemed impressive by the world. Why? Because it is easier for the weary to relinquish self-reliance for reliance on Him, to trust in His power and strength, leading to true peace in Him.
How is it that in Christ, when we are weak, we are strong? Because in Christ, there is no longer self-reliance or self-sufficiency. We no longer rely on our own ability to handle and overcome life's circumstances. In Christ, we have truly been set free from ourselves. We let go and trust in God with all our hearts. We are strong because our trust and reliance on His strength become our strength.
Our circumstances, situations, or feelings about ourselves at any given moment no longer determine our security with God or His willingness to carry us through any situation. By relying completely on Him and His power, we unburden ourselves.
In Christ, it is not about having it all together, feeling strong or capable in ourselves, or possessing the success the world values. In Christ, we possess a standing and a position that far transcend anything this world offers.
Christ is our sufficiency, and we stand before God sufficient through His power, coming just as we are every minute of every day.
