You know when I sit down and when I rise up my entire life, everything I do;
You understand my thought from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And You are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue still unspoken,
Behold, O LORD, You know it all.
You have enclosed me behind and before,
And You have placed Your hand upon me.
Such infinite knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is too high above me, I cannot reach it. (Psalms 139:2-6 AMP)
In a world where self-focus comes so easily, it is rare to find someone who genuinely sees others as they truly are, who reaches out with understanding and compassion, looking to others' needs rather than just their own. Yet, this is the God we have.
Many of us have spent our entire lives hoping to find someone who truly sees and knows us. But we serve a God who not only knows us through and through—intimately aware of all our concerns—but is also present, close at hand, and possesses the power to bring about in our lives what we desire and need, far beyond what we could ever ask or imagine.
God, through His Word and breath—the Creator and Sustainer of all things—desires to uphold us with a meek and gentle heart. He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms so that we may come to fully grasp the width, length, height, and depth of His love. Through this, we are filled with all His fullness, experiencing everything He has prepared for us.
As we begin to understand how intimately acquainted God is with us, our hearts—perhaps timidly at first—slowly find rest in His peace. As our confidence in His care grows, we learn to entrust our lives, our whole being, to Him. He knows precisely how to guide us, directing each step in line with His plan, which is ultimately for our good. He understands our worries and anxieties, comforting us with His words of wisdom and understanding.
He lights our path, providing what we need at just the right time and in just the right measure, fully aware of what we can bear. He lifts us up so that, in His light, we may see beyond ourselves. And in this expanded vision, we come to a greater understanding of the truth, freeing us from self-focus and into the light of His glorious, eternal reality.
Even when the world and our relationships let us down, God is here to sustain and fill us—so much so that we overflow with His love. With this abundance, we can then reach out to others, meeting their needs as God has met ours.
In Christ, we stand satisfied, no longer living in desperate want as we once did. We have found fulfillment in God, allowing us to stand in His peace, secure in our hearts, and capable of weathering all of life’s circumstances, healthy and whole.
